Rules And Expected Behavior Of Slaves

While In The Cylinder of Physicians (CoP)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

You do not have to ask permission or karta to enter the cylinder.

You must ask permission to be afk/return or to leave the cylinder.

There will be no co-channeling in the CoP. Either leave the other channel, or leave the CoP.
The only exception is for #Cylinder^_Trivia. If a slave wishes to co-channel in the CoP Main Hall and Trivia, it is allowed, but keep an eye on what is happening in the CoP Main Hall. Do not ignore guests. If you are unable to do both, then leave the Main Hall and be only in the Trivia channel.

When entering the Cylinder, all slaves are to go to the serving furs unless your owner is present and it is His desire to have you at His furs. You are then to request permission to meet and greet. Any Free in the room may grant this request, as well as permission to go afk/return or leave.

The Cylinder of Physicians strives to live within, and to be true to, the precepts of the books of the Gor series, written by John Norman, as much as is possible within an online environment. Certain concessions are made due to the online venue and the fact that all communication is through the written word... one cannot look the other in the face to receive non-verbal cues. This is still Gor, however, and all entering the Cylinder, whether Free or slave, are expected to act accordingly. If you feel this is "just role-playing"... if you do not believe in the Gorean philosophies or you are adamantly opposed to them... do not bother coming into the CoP. However, if you are a submissive and wish to learn more about the world of Gor, you are welcome to enter, to observe, and to learn. Notify one of the Ops (the ones with an @ next to their name) of your desire to observe, and place “-obs” after your nick to indicate that you are observing. You may still participate in activities in the CoP… as a matter of fact, it is encouraged and expected.

The order in which you Greet when you enter is:

1. Your Owner

2. Administrator

3. First Sword

4. Mistress of the CoP.

5. Mistress of the Kennels.

6. Daughter of the Administrator.

7. The other Ops in the room starting with the FM.

7. Then all Free Men

8. All Free Women

It is the wish of the Administrator that the following order be adhered to when offering service in the room. It is important that his guests’ needs are seen to first.

1. FM guest

2. FW guest

3. The Ops in the channel-- FM then the FW

4. The Administrator and the Mistress of the Cop are to be last.

You are to mark yourself by changing your nick if you are unable to pay attention in channel, such as afk, pm, alcove etc. Being AFK in channel for a long period of time is considered lurking. This is not acceptable for slaves in the CoP. If you are to be “afk” for an extended period of time (greater than 10 minutes) you are to ask permission to leave.

The CoP recognizes the “Rule of Threes.” If you ask to leave and no one responds (and Docbot, the Guardian of the Cylinder, is not working or is not present), wait 30 seconds and ask again. If no one answers wait 30 seconds, again, then ask a third time. After the third request, you may get up and leave, saying your farewells as usual.

Using DocBot for permission to leave the CoP: IF there is no other Op in channel besides DocBot, or any other Ops in channel are busy and/or do not respond to your first request, after one minute you may type your second request to leave, using the word."!depart" (notice the exclamation point) in the sentence, and DocBot will give you permission to leave. Do NOT just type !depart as that is not a proper request.

Example: “Permission to !depart, please?”

This also applies to permission to go !afk and to !return.

Not everything can be foreseen. We, in the Cylinder, recognize that real life must come first. If you have a real life emergency, you may type in channel “r/l emergency” and then just leave without asking permission. WARNING: If this is over-used as a means of exiting the channel, expect to be questioned in PM by one of the Ops.

The purpose of the Ops in the CoP is to ensure the smooth running of the Home, and that the wishes of the administrator are carried out. Honor is of prime importance to the Administrator… no speech, action or behavior that will bring dishonor to this Home will be tolerated. The Ops’ word is law. You will not argue with them.

Foul language is not permitted by slaves at any time. It is a display of disrespect. If you cannot think of other words, we will be glad to direct you to some free online dictionaries.

A slave will always be pleasant and cheerful to a Master/Mistress. If a slave feels they cannot be of a pleasing, positive attitude at all times they are in the CoP, then they are not to enter, or are to leave until they are in the right frame of mind. “I am having problems in r/l” will not be accepted as an excuse here in the Cylinder for objectionable behavior, for in actuality the decision to come online is a conscious choice we all make each and every time. Check your attitude at the door. Never come into the CoP and call attention to yourself if you are upset, angry, or in pain, wanting people to ask you what's wrong and give you a reason to talk about it. Drama queens will not be tolerated… you will be warned first in PM by an Op, then if it continues you will be told to leave by an Op or you may be kicked and possibly banned.

There are times when slaves become privy to information of a personal nature concerning Free Persons or other slaves. Slaves will not discuss personal matters of others in the channel. Malicious gossip can injure... even idle gossip can cause problems We do not want or need... neither will be tolerated.

Nude slaves are not permitted in the general public areas of the CoP*. If you are nude, at the entrance is a large, polished wooden trunk containing emerald-green silks, which you are to wear while you are in the Cylinder. Slaves are not commonly nude in public on Gor. It is offensive to Free Women. This is the Home of the Administrator, not a paga tavern. This is generally used as a form of punishment.

-- 'Sometimes masters, as a discipline for their beauties, have them go naked in public, but with their tunic, or Ta-teera, or whatever about their neck or wrist...' Vagabonds of Gor, p. 477

*Nudity is permitted in the Cylinder Baths. There is a large, heavy, ceiling-to-floor tapestry that separates the areas for Free Men and Free Women.

If you are owned and there is a conflict between the rules/restrictions placed upon you by your Master and the rules of the CoP, you are to follow the stricter of the two rules. If you feel that your Master will have a problem with the rules that are enforced in the CoP, you are to leave the Cylinder, and your Master may speak to the Administrator or one of His Ops. The rules, however, are not negotiable.

If you are owned and have restrictions-- after you have entered and greeted, PM one of the Ops and inform them. The restrictions of your owner will be honored here in the Cylinder. You will be protected, as well. However, if your behavior is found objectionablein any way, you will be warned in PM by an Op only once… then you will be asked to leave and how your owner can be contacted. Expect that He will be contacted and the Administrator or one of the Ops will want to speak to Him personally.

If you are unowned and your conduct is not in keeping with the policies of the Cylinder, you will be PM’d by one of the Ops and warned only once. Only an Op in the Cylinder may administer punishment to an unowned slave. The punishment will be designed to fit the offense, up to and including your incurring a permanent ban from the Cylinder.

You are never to argue with the Free in the Home. A Free may not always be right, but by definition they are never wrong. Remember… a slave always has the last word... “Yes, Master/Mistress.”

The duties of a slave are to be exquisitely beautiful and absolutely obedient. You will describe yourself as you kneel at the furs or perform any task or action. You are not to type, simply, “she kneels in nadu or tower.” Remember, this is online and you are painting word pictures for all those in the Home. When you perform an action in channel, this is your chance to describe yourself and to demonstrate your knowledge of being a Gorean slave. This is accomplished by painting a word picture. Slaves are to serve with dedication, joy and a desire to be found pleasing.

You may not PM a Free unless you have requested permission of them in the channel (the exception to this is the Ops in the channel). If you are in PM with a Free and it is going to be a lengthy conversation, you are to mark yourself as such in channel. For example: nick-pm. This is to prevent the Free in the room from getting angry thinking you are ignoring them or not paying attention in channel.

You are to serve the Free as though your very life depends upon it… for it may.

The Cylinder of Physicians is a limited No Kill, No Forced Collar, No Face-Stripping Zone. However, it is also AOD, which means At Ops’ Discretion. S-Ops are empowered in the room to act as they see fit in keeping with the Administrator’s wishes.

Slaves are expected to serve to the fullest level of their training and their restrictions, if any. If you are new to Gor, you may still offer service in the channel. It will be expected of you, just inform the one you are serving that you are new. The Ops will support any slave in channel who has an honest desire to learn. We of the Cylinder believe the way you learn best is by trying. After your serve, you may be PM’d by an Op and suggestions will be made as to how to improve you serve, or you may PM an Op and ask for their opinion. Do not take what they have to say as criticism-- they are here to support you. Do not worry, you will not be critiqued in channel and embarrassed.

Sensuality and beauty in a slave are encouraged in all that she does, but slutty actions will be frowned upon. Slaves do not describe themselves as dripping and glistening, or speak of crotch, cunts or petals in channel. If you do, you may be given a mop to clean up after yourself.

The rim of a vessel is never “sweetened,” nor are the vessels checked on any part of the slave’s body. Would you drink after someone whom you did not know has washed recently? The Administrator would not permit chipped or cracked vessels to be used to serve his guests. Such quality is checked by the slaves who do the dishes and clean the kitchen. ** You are not to clean vessels with your hair or clothes, for the same reason.

The Cylinder has a kitchen, not a servery. The word “servery” was never used in the books and it is not used here.

Use of First Person speech is allowed, but not mandatory, by slaves in the Cylinder with “I” typed as a lower-case “i.” It was used in the books, and we try to follow the books as closely as possible. Personal pronouns are allowed.

A slave may greet in any of the CoP rooms by saying “tal.” This is to be done without the accompanying "open palm" gesture that a Free would use... the "open palm" was used as a sign to the others that the Free was carrying no weapons. Since a slave is not generally allowed to carry a weapon, using the hand gesture would be considered an insult or affront to the Free. If a Free takes exception to the use of "tal" by a slave, they will be spoken to by an Op. You may also say farewell by saying “i wish you well,” but to say “be well” is a command, and a slave never commands a Free.

If you serve with heat, expect to use it. Gor is a world dominated by men. Their desires and sexuality are recognized and accepted as a fact of Gorean life. But the Ops will also not let you be harassed by HNGS, either, which we find online Gor has in overabundance.

Casual sexual foreplay in the Cylinder is accepted, but overt sexual scening is frowned upon in the Main Hall and those areas considered public rooms (rooms that are not “invite-only”). Take it to the alcoves. The Cylinder Baths are different and scening is permitted if tastefully done, thus the reason they are invite-only. Part of the Baths is reserved strictly for FM and it is a place where the Free may go and kick back.

Same-sex scening is not permitted in the Cylinder. What two consenting adults do in PM is their business, but we do not want to see it here.

You will never be forced to do something with which you do not feel comfortable while you are in the Cylinder. If you are being pressured, PM an Op and speak to them.

You are never to ask across the room to serve a Free. You are permitted to ask a Free if you may approach them to offer service, then you rise from the serving furs, kneel in front of the Free, and ask how you may be of service.

Lazy slaves will not be tolerated in channel. If a Free does not wish food or a beverage there are many ways a slave can be found pleasing, from warming the feet of the Free with your body, to telling a story, or asking if they wish you to kneel by them and provide conversation. There are many ways to be found pleasing, and creativity is encouraged.

You will kneel in “tower” when at the furs of a Free Woman unless you are a kajirus.

You may PM a slave in the room without asking permission in channel. We of the Cylinder believe that slaves are to be helpful to each other and to support each other. All come from different experiences and are at different levels of training, even the highly-trained Pleasure slaves.

Vicious “kajira politics” will be swiftly dealt with by the Ops in the Home. Kajira politics have destroyed more homes than we care to speak about. This will not be tolerated here in the Cylinder. There will always be someone who can serve or dance better than you, and those who cannot do as well. Focus on doing your absolute best and strive to always improve yourself, then be satisfied… but be satisfied that you have done your best, strived to be found pleasing and served with fire in your belly.

Jealousy and possessiveness have killed more slaves than unpleasing behavior. Yes, we of the Cylinder recognize it is a normal human reaction to feel jealousy, but as a Gorean slave you must learn to deal with it. Remember “It is all about the Master/Mistress”… a slave has no rights, and thereby no expectations. If your Master wishes another on his lap, or to serve him even if you have offered first, or to alcove, you must learn to deal with it, for all is at the whim of the Free.

Respect will be shown to the Free at all times. Yes, you may know more than the Free you are serving, for even Masters and Mistresses must learn that all are at different points in their Gorean growth. Remember that intelligent slaves are valued on Gor. It is not always what you say but how you say it. Tact, discretion and diplomacy are “must have” survival skills for a kajira/kajirus. You are to do nothing to cause embarrassment or bring dishonor to the Cylinder or Free in the room.

All Free are to be addressed in the Cylinder as Master or Mistress. If a FW enters with the name of Lady before her nick she is still to be addressed as Mistress. The term Lady is reserved for use by the Free only.

Slaves are permitted to use sharp instruments in preparing food in the kitchen, and they are not chained. It was done in the books, and so it will be in the Cylinder. There are also many instances of slaves touching weapons in the book. What is important is the intent with which a weapon is touched.

A slave will never strike a Free or draw a weapon upon a Free. You may be (most probably will be) punished by death. This is also according to the books.

You are not to shorten your nick in channel to be cute. Your name is a gift of your Master. It is to be treated as such and respected.

A Free’s name is not to be altered. If it is more than a one-word name, such as Master Saevus`Ferreus^Draco, it is proper to address him as Master Draco. Leave off any titles at the end-- for example, you would address the FS as Master Ha`Keel not Master Ha`Keel–FS. It is not correct to combine titles such as Master Administrator or Master Ubar… use some common sense.

If you are in doubt whether a Free is a man or woman, it is best to address them as Master. They will correct you if you get it wrong. Beg forgiveness and make a mental note as to the sex of the person for the next time. Hint: doing a “whois” on a person can often give you a clue as to their gender.

If the CoP has a first girl, you are to address her as "mistress" using a lower-case “m”. In the absence of a Free in the room her word will be law. She has not been made “en sa-fora” for nothing. She is there to carry out the desires of the Administrator.

“Cyberisms” are not supported here in the Cylinder. Much misinformation has been passed on from Free to Free, slave to slave, and as such some things that are purely an online convention are taken as Gospel on online Gor. When you are serving, your total focus is to be on the one you serve. You do not greet or carry on a long conversation in PM. If you are unsure about something you may quickly ask an Op or another slave in PM. If another slave is serving, you are not to distract her. If the channel gets busy, several slaves may be doing things in the channel at the same time, seeing to the needs of the free. Concentrate on what you are doing.

You are not to criticize a fellow slave in-channel. You may tactfully offer a suggestion in PM, but that is the limit. Never correct another slave in open channel. If you find that a slave has made a gross mistake, PM an Op and they will speak to the slave. Remember, just because you were taught a certain way does not mean it is universally practiced. In fact, when serving there was no such thing as a pat formula a slave was to follow.

You do not touch a Free without asking their permission first. Period.

Slaves are not to nod, they are to say “Yes/No Master/Mistress.”

If two slaves are not in agreement, they are expected to be adults and try to handle the problem themselves. As in the books, Free do not get involved in the squabbles between slaves. But!!!…. this is not to be carried out in open channel. It is distasteful to the Free to witness such a display, and it disturbs the harmony of the home. Take it out of channel, or you will be taken out of channel.

You are not to involve yourself in disagreements/issues between the Free. You are not to carry tales between the Free. If a Free has made a comment to you or told you something, it is to stay with you alone. Remember, silence can be golden and is in your own best interest.

Remember CINBIAK… “curiosity is not becoming in a kajira/kajirus”

If you are in the middle of a serve, or are being spoken to regarding an issue by a Free (not casual conversation) and your Master summons you in PM, you are expected to finish first then, as soon as possible, ask permission to leave. If your owner has a problem with this request, they may come to the Cylinder and speak to an Op. To just get up and leave, cut a serve short, or cut a Free off when they are speaking to you and say “I have to go” is disrespectful, insulting and does not honor your owner. Remember, all that you do and say, no matter where you are, is a reflection of the one whose collar you wear.

If there are more than five Free in the room it is acceptable to say “greetings Masters and Mistresses.” To greet everyone individually when there are that many Free in the channel is too distracting. This is also acceptable when leaving. If there are five or less Free in the room, you are to greet the Free or say farewell to the Free individually. You may combine your greetings/farewells to other slaves in the room, such as “greetings nick, nick, nick” and so forth. If the Free have marked themselves in such a way to show they are not available (AFK, PM, PHONE, BRB, etc.), you do not need to address them until they return.

If a slave is in service to a Free or has been called to His/Her furs, the slave will ask that Free for permission to greet. Though prior permission may have been given to meet/greet, this is suspended when you are in service.

Lying and thieving slaves were dealt with harshly in the books. It will be the same in the Cylinder.

If you have forgotten to ask a Free how they wish their paga or wine, etc., you are not to call out to them from across the room. Hurry back, kneel, ask forgivness, and clarify what they desire. Black wine is to be prepared at the Masters feet… sugars and cream will be placed on the tray and added just before serving. Wine is to be opened and poured at the Master’s feet. Botas are not used in the Cylinder-- that was a convention used when Goreans traveled. Ask a Free if they wish mead or ale in a horn or mug. There are plenty of lovely trays and vessels of all kinds in the kitchen. There was no cut-and-dry right-and-wrong in the books for serving a free. Your focus is to please the one your serve. If they want paga in a mug instead of a three footed bowl, it is their whim and they are not to be argued with. Use imagination and creativity in your serves, and don’t get into a rut. It’s boring.

If you are unowned and a Free wishes to use you, they must seek the permission of an Op in the room first. The Op will then PM you and ask how you feel about the request. This is to protect those slaves who wish to visit and enjoy the home from harassment, HNG's, and ignorant wannabe Masters.

Slaves never touch money with their hands.

A log can be your best defense if there is a conflict between you and another, especially a Free person. Having your mIRC client set to log all channel and PM conversations, and keeping those logs, is highly recommended.

You may PM an Op without asking permission, but remember, respect must always be maintained. You are to obtain permission in channel before you PM any other Free.

All serves and actions are to be fresh and original, no pop-ups or prewritten serves are permitted. The only exception will be a dance, for they require much thought and planning.

Your serves are to be realistic. If you cannot jump a building in a single bound or stop a speeding bullet in real life, don’t type it in channel.

The CoP will not allow any slave to be abused just because a person is a Free and can throw their weight around. Note: the Mistress of the CoP, the Administrator’s Daughter and the Mistress of the Kennels are all “ex-slaves.” They have very strong feelings about the treatment of slaves, and are quite protective of any slave who comes to the Cylinder. However, slaves, be forewarned: it takes a slave to know a slave. As the FW of the Cylinder ARE ex-slaves, do not try to BS them. Don’t even go there. You have been warned.

If a Free does not have a lot of time, they may request that a serve be done “harta,” or rapidly, meaning two or three posts, maximum. If you have never done a “harta serve” it would do you well to practice such a serve on your own.

If you wish to learn more about Gor and "being Gorean," the Administrator has three words for you… Take the time to READ THE BOOKS!

We realize that with the growing popularity of Gor, it is getting harder to find the books of the Gor series.

e-Bay is a good source, but the bids on certain books can become prohibitive.

The first four books, plus the latest book (#26, Witness of Gor) have been reprinted recently and are available on http://www.store.yahoo.com/worldofgor/books.html

Some of the books in e-book format are available at http://www.ereads.com/eBrowseAuthor.asp?txtLastName=Norman

The novels are also available online, to some degree. Use your favorite search engine. But be careful... many of the online versions may have been altered and are not true to the original books.
